Emerging Economies in Asia (China, India, and Vietnam) and Rest of the World (Australia and New Zealand) Represent the New growth avenues for the Chromatography Instrumentation Market
Chromatography is considered as the most powerful technique of separation available for researchers and various industries across the globe. Growth in the chromatography instrumentation market is likely to be centered at China, India, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. Furthermore, the chromatography instrumentation market in Australia and New Zealand is expected to grow in the forecast period, due to the increasing number of collaborations, regulatory changes in the pharmaceutical industry, and rise in the number of chromatography conferences.
China is the major revenue generating region for the chromatography instrumentation market in Asia. The growing biomedical industry, large number of chromatography conferences, and increasing presence of major chromatography companies are the factors that are expected to propel the market for chromatography instruments in China. The 11th Five-Year Plan of China provided impetus for advancements in technology and commercialization of materials for biomedical applications, while the 12th Five-Year Plan would provide financial support and government industrial policy incentives to the biotechnology industry in China.
India is witnessing a rise in crop science research and proteomics researches. Both of these fields involve high use of chromatography instruments. The growth in Indian pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries is also increasing the demand for chromatography instruments. Moreover, the research activities being conducted in Japan make extensive use of chromatography instruments. In August 2011, Shimadzu Corporation (Japan), a chromatography instrumentation company, and the University of Tokyo signed a joint research agreement, to develop lipidomic technology for discovering biomarkers for various diseases such as lifestyle related diseases.
The free trade agreement between Korea and the U.S. has opened opportunities for the Korean market, to increase the imports of chromatography instruments. Vietnam, which is considered as a dynamic emerging region in Eastern Asia by the World Bank, is showcasing improvements in industrial infrastructure. Due to this, Agilent Technologies, a leading chromatography instrumentation company, expanded its presence in Vietnam. In May 2013, Agilent opened two new offices located at Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, in Vietnam. The offices were equipped to provide sales, applications, and support services to the company’s customers in Vietnam. The office at Ho Chi Minh City is a Demo Center, which is equipped with bio-analytical instruments used by scientists and researchers.
Government support is another significant factor in providing impetus to the chromatography instrumentation market. Emerging regions have less stringent norms and require low capital for the development of new technologies. Various governments are undertaking several steps to further encourage R&D activities in their respective regions. For instance, the government of China is offering tax rebates to those investing in R&D in the country, thus chromatography instrumentation companies have expanded their presence in China. Furthermore, the Mexican government has developed adaptive regulatory policies such as 11 Free Trade Agreements and trade relations with over 40 countries. Chromatography instruments are widely used in R&D activities and thus show a high growth potential in these regions.
