Cloud database and Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) help several industry verticals in various ways

The need for using cloud NoSQL databases to handle a set of data did not arise only because of the size of the data but also because of the way data were stored in standard relational databases. To store anything in relational database, the data model has to be fixed, each table has to be defined with specific column names, and the column in turn has to have their attributes such as the type and the size of the column predetermined. Also, with relational database management every row of the predefined table has to be filled to ensure optimal performance and disk usage. But all these problems were resolved by the NoSQL databases.

Cloud database and Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) help several industry verticals in various ways; the rapid increase in Internet usage and data sources has also increased the complexity and challenges faced by the companies. Those problems are mainly related to storage and usability of sets of data which are growing at an enormous rate due to which traditional methods are no more feasible. In addition to this, multiplication of data sources and their various types have led to unstructured data storage. All these complexities eventually compelled companies to look out for other models in which unstructured data can be stored. Hence, open source communities built a new database known as NoSQL which is able to face these new challenges.

The NoSQL approach eradicates scaling problems as in almost of the applications scaling can be done vertically and horizontally. Such cloud databases and DBaaS solutions complement customers’ requirements to every possible extent. The schemaless approach of NoSQL solved the problems induced by fixed data schema of relational database management or SQL.

The uptake of NoSQL will complement the deployment of DBaaS, as small and medium businesses along with large enterprises would prefer NoSQL DBaaS as they are more scalable and cost effective, and also address the capacity requirement more efficiently.
