Outdoor Wi-Fi Market Forecasts 2013 - 2018
The outdoor Wi-Fi market is segmented based on deployment types, products, services, industry verticals and regions.
Wired and wireless technologies are two different ways to provide resources and data sharing over a network. Earlier, most of the networks were wired. There were a lot of drilled holes in the walls, a lot of hanging wires running across the walls of the buildings and enterprises. If one wants to access the data on that network, they had to be connected by some means to that wired network. Data transfer was easy but data accessibility was difficult. Then wireless network got introduced in the market and this technology revolutionized the glove in the last decade.
For wired networks, it was very difficult to transfer data from one physical location to another as it had to penetrate through wall; long running cables and wires were another difficulty to manage. In the case of wireless networks, the difficulties have been solved with the data being transmitted without cables using wireless routers and transceivers.
The increasing need for data accessibility to the enterprise data on the move for the mobile workforces has given rise to a need for larger wireless networks on which data can be accessed outside the enterprise walls as well. With the advent of Outdoor Wi-Fi Market enabled devices like PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants), laptops, etc. the demand for data transfer on the move increased.
Now, the requirement of wireless networks is not only limited for professional use but also for personal and social connectivity. Furthermore, social networking has also acted as a catalyst to increase the growing demand for outdoor Wi-Fi networks. By 2016, 45% of the Wi-Fi access points that are deployed are for outdoor purpose and with Next Generation Hotspots (Hotspot2) as well. By the year 2018, the outdoor Wi-Fi market is expected to grow to $37.2 Billion. Major players of the Networking industry such as Cisco, Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, HP, etc. have shown keen interest in this segment.
