SCADA Market - Market Leader

SCADA systems are required for automation mainly by industries such as oil and gas, power (T&D), and water and wastewater management. SCADA systems, with their unique feature of acquiring data from the remote field devices and enabling the centralized computer to control and monitor the processes from one location, have witnessed an increase in their applications in the industry. In the present scenario where human activities are also being automated by the use of robotics, the SCADA systems provide great aid as a control system and that too in a cost-effective manner, thereby increasing the operational efficiency of the firm. Benefits of automated control over the physically controlled processes are convenience, less process time, and increased efficiency. Major players involved in the development of the SCADA systems include ABB Ltd. (Switzerland), Rockwell Automation (U.S.), and Siemens AG (Germany).

Recently, Schneider Electric (France) has developed a ‘SCADA and MES support’ app for Android and apple iOS devices and brought the application of SCADA in Smartphone. Schneider Electric offers SCADA based control systems to various industries such as building automation, energy and infrastructure, data centers, and others. The smart-phone based app will enable the user to get access to online portal which caters to support services and also enables the user to search for solutions regarding any technical troubles. Having SCADA systems along with the Internet of Things is expected to change the present scenario of the control systems.

Hughes Communication (U.S.) offers satellite broadband by catering innovative network technology, services, and solutions for enterprises. It has developed a ‘Hughes 9201- M2M satellite IP SCADA terminal’ which serves as a gateway to global machine to machine communications. The terminal allows sending and receiving of IP packet via Ethernet over the Inmarsat BGAN satellite network. The ‘9201- M2M’ acts as an intermediary between customer SCADA terminal and the Inmarsat BGAN satellite. Due to its compatible size, it is easy to implement and thus, it is cost effective. It is an always on access terminal which provides continuous link between the SCADA terminal and the satellite. It is expected that the continuous increasing application of the SCADA system and innovation will help to grow the entire SCADA market.
