Video Surveillance System And Service

One effective solution for the vigilance of crime is the use of video surveillance, which helps the government organization to ensure public safety. The major application of video surveillance system includes security, prevention from theft, recording public & private property, and recording critical events.  The video surveillance was first used in early 1970’s, wherein it was deployed to aid road traffic management and for monitoring theft in banks. The video surveillance grew by 1990, to include public highways, stadium and streets.

The first generation video surveillance began with analog based systems, which were built from cameras, monitors, multiplexers and Video Cassette Recorders (VCR). The analog system has many drawbacks like; it often produces low picture quality, and involves expensive installation. Other than these, there are problems with using a VCR, like retrieval difficulties and storage issues. At present, Internet protocol (IP) video surveillance system is used as an alternative solution to bulky and expensive analog systems. The IP video surveillance system offers a wide range of new capabilities at less expensive installation costs; comprise cameras which offer high picture quality; video analytics, and so on. Video analytics software has become a desirable component of the video surveillance system. The intelligence in video analytics helps to draw the attention of the concerned security personnel towards any scrupulous activity; thereby, providing an improved safety. The increased demand from institutions, retails and small enterprises has resulted in the growth of the Video Surveillance as a system (VSaaS). The major benefits of VSaaS include high return of investment, off-site storage, remote monitoring and the likes.

The transition from standard definition video to high definition video, as well as the growing number of cameras, has increased the need for more storage space. The cost is very high for storing large amount of data for long term purposes. The solution to this storage issue is the use of edge storage, a hard drive in which the video recorded can be used for later purpose, also; and video analytics, which are used to analyze, and help the system to store what is relevant.  However, still, the requirement for storage remains unresolved owing to its high cost.

Video surveillance systems have made significant progress in application sectors such as commercial, infrastructure, institutions, industrial, and residential. The video surveillance market is expected to grow across the globe due to the upcoming trends which include megapixel cameras; and hosted video solutions, which eliminates the need for Digital Video Recorder (DVR) and Network Video Recorder (NVR). The leading players in video surveillance system and service market are Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology (China), Bosch Security System (Germany), Axis Communication (Sweden), Zhejiang Dahua Technology (China), and Pelco by Schneider electric (U.S.).
