MnM’s client is a world leader in catalysis and surface science specially in the production of heterogeneous catalysts and design of process plants based on catalytic processes. The client was interested in the project “Identification of Acquisition Targets (Company/Technology) in Low Temperature Sulfur Species Adsorption Material/Technologies” The key objective for the study involved :

  1. Identifying companies in involved in low temperature sulfur adsorption material/technology for acquisition
  2. The companies are to be shortlisted on the basis of industry experience, revenue, revenue growth, profitability, number of employees, number of technologies/materials offered, r&d expenditure, geographic presence, number of manufacturing locations and products and services offered
  3. Shortlist and recommend top 5 companies for acquisition to the client

Solution Provided:

  1. Methodology Adopted by MnM : MnM carried out this study through a combination of extensive secondary research followed by primary discussions with the targeted companies. MnM identified 3,017 companies related to sulfur industry from various sources such as: exhibitors list of relevant trade exhibitions, members list of relevant associations, members list of relevant sulfur removal associations, news scanning and other secondary sources. Exhaustive interviews were conducted from sales, marketing, production, R&D, technical experts using a questionnaire to understand and gain in-depth information about their company. Specific weightage were assigned to each parameters on which the companies were evaluated. The companies were given certain scores on the basis of each parameters and all the scores were summed up to attain a final score. Finally, the companies were ranked on the basis of their final score in decreasing order. The company attaining the highest score is the most preferred company for acquisition whereas the company attaining the lowest score is the least preferred company for acquisition
  2. Actual Solution Provided: Top 20 companies, ideal for acquisition to the client were identified
    Detailed presentation for the top 20 companies including information on industry experience, revenue, revenue growth, technology/material offered, number of employees, r&d expenditure, profitability, geographic presence, products and services etc. were prepared
    Comparative analysis chart for each company against each parameter was prepared and presented to the client A scoring index chart was prepared and presented for top 20 companies to depict the highest, average and the lowest score
