The wireless connectivity market is expected to be dominated by the North America, followed by APAC and Europe during the forecast period. The Top 5 players in the wireless connectivity market in 2015 would be Intel Corporation (U.S.), Qualcomm Incorporated (U.S.), Texas Instruments (U.S.), NXP Semiconductors N.V. (Netherlands) and STMicroelectronics N.V. (Switzerland).
Wireless connectivity market players have adopted various strategies such as new product/new service launches; agreements, collaborations, joint ventures, and partnerships; and expansions and acquisitions to achieve growth in the wireless connectivity market. Intel Corporation (U.S.) is involved in the design and manufacturing of integrated digital technology platforms. The company has six business segments, namely, the PC client group, data center group, Internet of Things group, mobile and communications group, software and services operating segments, and others. The PC client group deals with products incorporated in notebooks, desktop computers, and 2 in 1 systems for consumers and businesses. The mobile and communications group offers products incorporating hardware, software, and connectivity for smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices. Intel provides wireless solutions and products for home connectivity, mobile solutions and workplace connectivity. In February 2016 Intel accelerates development of 5G by forming collaboration with leaders Ericsson (Sweden), KT Corporation (South Korea), LG Electronics (South Korea), Nokia (Finland), SK Telecom (South Korea) and Verizon (U.S.). In September 2014, Intel acquired 1400 wireless patents from Powerwave Technologies (U.S.) that went bankrupt in 2013. This would help the company to quickly develop new wireless products with improved capabilities. Cisco is also working on developing and updating various wireless products such as project Alloy that is a wireless virtual reality headset that contains the computational and graphics power necessary to create the virtual images and an internal battery for power, as well as 3D cameras and sensors powered by Intel's RealSense motion tracking technology.
NXP Semiconductors N.V. is a Dutch semiconductor manufacturer founded in 2006, and is headquarters at Netherlands. NXP Semiconductors creates solutions that enable secure connections for a Smarter World. NXP offers a portfolio of low power, cost effective wireless solution for embedded devices. These solutions addresses a number of monitoring and control application for Internet of Things, including consumer, smart energy, industrial and healthcare. The company under wireless connectivity technology offers – short range RF and wireless technology (Bluetooth LE, ZigBee, Thread and NFC); security; and sensor both location and environmental sensors. In December 2015, NXP semiconductor acquired Freescale Semiconductor Ltd. (U.S.) for USD 11.8 billion in cash. Freescale Semiconductor was major suppliers of chips for use in cars and are seeking to benefit as vehicles become more advanced, requiring more processors and electronics. The acquired company, with about USD 10 billion in annual sales, would be the world’s eighth-largest chipmaker. This would create new prospects for the NXP and reduced the computation. The company’s product portfolio combined with its ability to form strategic collaborations and partnerships would make the company one of the leading players in the growth of the wireless connectivity products.
