Webinar Presentation on “Marine Lubricants Market - Global Forecast to 2021” to be held on 8th March, 2017

The Chemicals & Materials (CnM) practice at MarketsandMarkets is pleased to announce its Webinar on "Marine Lubricants Market by Type (Mineral Oil, Synthetic, Bio-Based, and Grease), Application (Engine, Hydraulic, And Compressor), and Region - Global Forecast to 2021" to be held on 8th March, 2017

Marine lubricants are oil formulations that tend to reduce friction among different operating mechanical parts of ships. These lubricants have a tendency to dissipate the heat generated through friction, combat wear & tear of machinery parts, and prevent machinery from the effect of corrosion. Mineral oil based marine lubricants are used worldwide, but, due to high sulphur and nitrogen emissions which are not eco-friendly, are being replaced by efficient bio-based marine lubricants on a larger scale.

The composition of marine lubricants primarily consists of base stocks and additives. These base stocks are heavy distillates, low wax, severely refined fractions of crude oil. Additives are then added to these base stocks for achieving properties such as resistance to corrosion, anti-oxidation, higher viscosity index, and high melting point among others. Additives significantly help in reducing the exhaust gas emissions, fuel consumption, and volume of oil required, thereby improving the longevity of lubricants. The marine engines takes the major market share of transmission fluids due to huge engine size coupled with smaller drain intervals, thus, leading to high lubricant consumption. The new technologies like exhaust gas scrubbers, selective catalytic reduction, exhaust gas recirculation, and blending-on-board among others are enhancing the efficiency of marine lubricants.
