Hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), also known as nosocomial infections, are a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. The implementation of infection control policies within healthcare facilities can help reduce deaths due to HAIs. Practices such as using ultraviolet environmental disinfection (UVD) systems after routine discharge and cleaning of hospital instruments such as catheters, surgical instruments, and injections help decrease the rate of HAIs caused by multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) or Clostridium difficile (CD).
