The global advanced energy storage systems market is likely to witness a CAGR of over 10% from 2013 to 2018. Europe represents the largest market in terms of value, followed by Asia-Pacific in 2012. Alstom is a leading player, providing pumped hydro storage technology all across the world. Its hydro storage products include pumped turbines, motor generators, control systems and all other related systems. It holds the record of having supplied more than 300 pumped motor generators in the last 50 years. Alstom’s strong R&D initiatives helped it gain a strong position in variable speed pumped storage.

Voith GmbH is another key market player and has been in the pumped hydro storage technology market for more than 100 years. Its offering include pumped hydro storage plants, pump turbines, motor generators, automation equipment, shut-off devices, and power-station electric and mechanical equipment. Voith has so far installed more than 400 hydro storage units, worldwide.

Andritz, having acquired VA Tech Hydro GmbH in 2006, is another major technology supplier in the pumped hydro storage technology market. It offers pumps, pump turbine, motor generators, variable speed generators, penstocks and manifolds, and others.
