ABB (Switzerland) and Siemens (Germany) are the Leading Player in the Electrical SCADA Market

The global electrical SCADA market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 7.48% from 2017 to 2022 to reach USD 3.29 Billion by 2022. This growth is primarily driven by the increasing investments in electrical networks, adoption of remote monitoring and control solutions, digitalization of the power sector, need for automation in the power industry, and rising pressure to reduce losses in transmission and distribution. North America is likely to continue to hold the largest share in the electrical SCADA market. The second largest market share was held by Europe in 2016.

The electrical SCADA market is dominated by a few global players. These include ABB (Switzerland), Siemens (Germany), Schneider (France), Emerson (US), Rockwell (US), and Honeywell (US). Contracts & agreements, joint ventures, and new product launches have been the key strategies adopted by major market players toward organic growth strategies from 2014 to 2017.

ABB, a leading player in the electrical SCADA market for the power sector offers automation solutions through its various digital solutions. ABB’s Ability Network Manager SCADA is a real-time platform to manage all the operations across energy generation and transmission and distribution systems. In September 2017, ABB acquired GE Industrial Solutions to expand its digital and automation business. The deal for this merger was completed for USD 2.6 billion. In February 2017, ABB venture capital unit invested USD 12 million in Enbala power networks for the establishment of new Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS). This will enable utilities, energy service companies, and grid operators to efficiently manage the entire lifecycle of distributed energy resources.

Siemens is a renowned organization providing reliable smart grid automation techniques to cope up with the challenges in the field of power generation and transmission techniques. The company manufactures and offers comprehensive energy management solutions through different SCADA techniques, RTU’s and PLC’s.  In February 2014 the industry sector of Siemens launched SIMATIC PCS 7 AS 410 SMART, a compact process automation controller for small-sized to medium standard DCS applications. This compact, affordable, and easy-to-use controller provides repeatability, which means once a standard solution is designed, the same can be used for several similar applications as well.
