Northrop Grumman Corporation (U.S.) and KUKA AG (Germany) are two of the Key Players in the Service Robotics Market

The service robotics market is highly competitive with a number of global and local players offering service robots in various applications across regions. The global service robotics market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 15.18% between 2016 and 2022. The said market is further estimated to realize unprecedented growth during the forecast period owing to certain factors; such as significant deployment of mobile robotic solutions in warehouse automation and logistics sector; strengthening in demand from medical and healthcare, education and research, and defense, rescue and security among several other sectors. Short to medium term payback period and high return on investments are some of the other factors adding to the growth of service robotics market. The major market players in the service robotics market includes Northrop Grumman Corporation (U.S.), KUKA AG (Germany), iRobot Corporation (U.S.), Kongsberg Maritime AS (Norway), DJI (China), Intuitive Surgical, Inc. (U.S.), Parrot SA (France), GeckoSystems Intl. Corp. (U.S.), Honda Motor Co. Ltd. (Japan), Adept Technology, Inc. (U.S.), Bluefin Robotics- now wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics Mission Systems, Inc. (U.S.), ECA Group (France), Aethon Inc. (U.S.), DeLaval International AB (Sweden), and Lely Holding S.a.r.l. (Netherlands).

The major players adopted the strategies of agreements, partnerships and collaborations, and new product launches to expand their global presence and increase their respective dominance in their relative service robotics market segments. For example, in October 2016, Northrop Grumman Corporation introduced Optical Bar Camera broad-area synoptic sensor on an RQ-4 Global Hawk high-altitude long-endurance unmanned aircraft system (UAS). Also, in August 2016, iRobot launched Roomba 960 vacuuming robot, which comprises adaptive navigation with visual localization and cloud-connected app control system. The company also introduced iRobot HOME App for its Braava jet Mopping robots.

Northrop Grumman Corporation (U.S.) and KUKA AG (Germany) are two of the key players in the service robotics market. Northrop’s aerospace systems segment offers unmanned aircraft systems, space systems, and laser systems. Its electronic system segment provides intelligence, surveillance and targeting systems, land and self-protection systems, and navigation and maritime systems. In March 2016, the company, in cooperation with Saab Aerosystems (Sweden), introduced the Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS) for the nEUROn unmanned combat air vehicle (UCAV) demonstrator.

KUKA AG, under its Swisslog business segment, offers automation solutions for medical and healthcare, warehouses, and distribution centers. KUKA AG has subsidiaries in over 30 countries including the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Brazil, China, Japan, Korea, India, Russia, and European countries. The key strategies of KUKA AG include expanding its business by establishing new subsidiaries, launching new service robots for better work experience, and collaborating with other companies to adopt new technologies and engineering solutions. For instance, in September 2016, Faurecia, a French-based automobile company, partnered with Swisslog for Swisslog’s Production Management System Software (PMS), CarryPick automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and three-axis robots for automating Faurecia’s manufacturing facility.
