Sputter Coater Market

New Product Developments, Agreements, and Partnerships were the Key Strategies Adopted by the Major Players to Grow in the Global Sputter Coater Market Between 2015 and 2017.

The sputter coater market size is projected to reach USD 804.2 Million by 2022, at a CAGR of 6.2% between 2017 and 2022. A sputter coater is an equipment or a machine used to deposit a very thin layer of conductive material (target) on a non-conductive surface (substrate) using the sputtering process before observation and investigation of surfaces in a scanning electron microscope (SEM) or transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Sputter coaters are also known as sputtering systems and sputter coating equipment. They are used in thin film coating applications in electronics & semiconductor, automotive, institutes, construction, and medical industries.

New Product Developments, Agreements, and Partnerships were the Key Strategies Adopted by the Major Players to Grow in the Global Sputter Coater Market Between 2015 and 2017. Major players in the sputter coater market include ULVAC (Japan), Quorum Technologies (UK), Bühler (Switzerland), Cressington Scientific Instruments (UK), Hitachi High-Technologies Corporation (Japan), Oxford Instruments (UK), Semicore Equipment (US), PLASSYS Bestek (France), PVD Products (US), and Denton Vacuum (US).

ULVAC used new product developments and agreements as its major strategies to increase its presence in the market and cater to the increasing demand for sputter coaters for use in applications, such as R&D and medical. In April 2015, ULVAC and Robert Bosch (Germany) signed an agreement to jointly develop the piezoelectric device for micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS). Bosch is a leading manufacturer of MEMS sensors. Under this agreement, Bosch will use ULVAC’s SME-200 sputtering system for the development of high-quality piezoelectric devices used in MEMS. With this agreement, the company expects to sell more equipment and gain increased revenue. The company also expects to gain a greater brand name in the sputter coater business through this agreement. Moreover, in March 2015, ULVAC launched the industry’s first low-temperature PZT sputtering technology used for the production of piezoelectric MEMS device integrated on the complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS). This technology will serve as a driver for the next generation MEMS devices.

Bühler, in December 2017, used expansions as its major strategy to strengthen its R&D capacities. It opened a new state-of-the-art application center in Alzenau, Germany, to serve its customers in the thin-film industry. This center has a testing area, a high-tech laboratory, and an R&D area, featuring the latest thin-film solutions from Bühler Leybold Optics, a subsidiary of Bühler. With this expansion, the company will provide its customers the necessary support for their applications. It will allow Bühler Leybold Optics to innovate customer products, create sample products, and conduct physical and durability testing.
