Market Leader - NB - IoT Chipset Market

The growth of NB-IoT chipset market is expected to be driven by the rising demand for long-range connectivity. The narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) chipset market is expected to grow from USD 16.7 Million in 2017 to USD 181.02 Million by 2022, at a CAGR of 61.06% between 2017 and 2022. The need for low-cost and low power connectivity technology also contributes to the growth of this market. North America is expected to hold the largest size of the NB-IoT chipset market, while Asia-Pacific market would grow at the highest rate during the forecast period.

The companies involved in the NB-IoT chipset market adopted various strategies such as new product launches, partnerships, agreements, and collaborations as the key growth strategy over the last two years. Of all the strategies, 64.7% of the developments were partnership, agreement, collaboration, joint ventures; while 29.4% of the developments involved were new product development and remaining 5.9% accounts for other strategies.

In the NB-IoT chipset market, Huawei (China) is one of the major players and the technology is expected to be commercialized by 2017. The company provides end-to-end (E2E) NB-IoT solutions, including chips, modules, terminals, network devices, and service management platforms. Huawei (China) along with Vodafone (U.K.) is currently researching into narrowband cellular IoT technology since 2014. The company has successfully completed a trial of its NB-IoT technology across Vodafone Australias network in Melbourne, with which the company would be able to connect large number of devices to 4G IoT network at a lower cost. This trail would help the company attain a strong foothold in NB-IoT chipset market. Huawei has also started the trial for smart parking solution. In July 2015, the company collaborated with China Unicom to deploy smart parking solution in Shanghai Disney Resort. With this development, the company has tremendous opportunity for entering the market of smart city, smart metering, smart parking, and other such markets.

Another major player for NB-IoT chipset market is Intel Corporation (U.S.). Intel showcased working demonstrations of NB-IOT technology with Ericsson and Nokia at Mobile World Congress. Intel device technology running on the Vodafone network is being used by the company for this demonstration. Intel intends to support commercial rollout of the technology with a roadmap for NB-LTE. Intel is amongst the major players that are supporting the commercialization of narrowband IoT technology. The company intends to deliver narrowband IoT products in 2016. Intel would be launching Intel XMM 7115, modem designed to support the industryís first wave of devices and applications based on Narrowband IOT (NB-IoT). Intel (U.S.) collaborated with two leading network vendors, Ericsson and Nokia, to connect the growing IoT market segment, and to further grow the momentum for Intelís LTE portfolio and roadmap with NB-LTE.
