Huawei (China) and ZTE (China) are the Key Players in the GPON Technology Market

The overall GPON technology market was valued at USD 6.71 Billion in 2016 and is expected to reach USD 11.07 Billion by 2023, at a CAGR of 7.45% between 2017 and 2023. The growth of this market is driven by the increasing penetration of FTTH services in Asia Pacific, growing demand for high-speed broadband services, advancements in GPON technology, and high demand for GPON for triple-play services.

Product developments and partnerships, agreements, and collaborations are the major strategies adopted by the players in the GPON technology market. Some of the key players in the GPON technology market include Huawei (China), Nokia (Finland), ZTE (China), FiberHome (China), Calix (US), ADTRAN (US), DASAN Zhone (US), Cisco Systems (US), NEC (Japan), Allied Telesis (Japan), Iskratel (Slovenia), Unizyx (Taiwan), and Alphion (US).

Huawei held the leading position in the GPON technology market in 2016. The company’s OLT GPON products include MA5800_X17, MA5800_X7, MA5600T, MA5603T, and MA5608T. All of these OLT products are GPON- and 10G-PON-enabled systems, and their control boards have a switching capacity of up to 7 TB/sec. The company’s portfolio of ODN products includes optical distribution frame (ODF), fiber distribution terminal (FDT), fiber access terminal (FAT), smart signal conditioning (SSC), terminal box (TB), and splitter. Huawei’s wide presence globally has enabled it to lead the GPON market and participate in the drafting of international standards for the GPON technology. Huawei has also collaborated with Etisalat UAE for the launch of XGS-PON in the Middle East. In April, 2017; Huawei developed a 25G-PON prototype, which has a bandwidth of 25 Gbps, by binding multiple wavelengths and in September, 2016; Huawei launched one of the first commercial XGS-PON solutions. Along with this, the company also entered into a collaboration with Etisalat UAE to launch 10 Gbps broadband service based on XG-PON technology.

ZTE ranks second in the GPON technology market. Full-Service Optical Access Platform; Stable CBU for Mobile Backhaul; Flexible Design for Sustained Return; Employing FTTx and Build Wireless City; eODN products; and GPON ONT are the various GPON technology components sold by the company. ZTE provides the complete portfolio of GPON products including OLT, ONU, and ODN giving it a presence in the entire value chain of the GPON technology. The company has its R&D and manufacturing facilities in China, India, Pakistan, the US, France, and Sweden. This enables the company to strengthen its distribution channel in Americas, Europe, and Asia Pacific. In September 2016, ZTE launched XGS-PON terminal device, which has a 10 Gbps uplink and downlink speed, and in February 2014; launched 10G-PON for Jazztel, a Spain-based telecom operator, for the FTTH network.
