Liquid Biopesticides Market

BASF SE (Germany) and Bayer AG (Germany) are Leading Players in the Liquid Biopesticides Market

The liquid biopesticides market is estimated to be worth USD 5.76 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 11.50 billion by 2030, at a CAGR of 14.8% from 2025 to 2030. Globally, farmers and agribusinesses are opting for liquid biopesticides over chemical pesticides because they seek sustainable and eco-friendly methods to protect their crops. Concerns about the environment and health are also pushing this shift. Supportive regulations in major regions, such as the US, EU, and Asia Pacific, are making it easier to approve and sell biological crop protection products. Advances in how these products are manufactured such as improvements in shelf life, stability, and delivery have made them more effective and suitable for various climates and crops. As more farmers adopt integrated pest management(IPM), they are turning to biological solutions to reduce chemical residues while maintaining high yields and quality. Consumers are also increasingly aware of food safety and organic produce, which is driving demand for crops treated with biopesticides and creating new opportunities for manufacturers. Companies are expanding their distribution, forming partnerships, and investing in research and development, which helps them reach more markets. In short, the focus on sustainability, strong regulations, and new technologies is driving the rapid growth of the liquid biopesticides market worldwide.

BASF SE  (Germany)

BASF SE is a chemical-based company that produces, markets, and sells a range of chemicals, plastics, crop protection products, and various performance products. The product line includes solvents, paints, food additives, fungicides, herbicides, and various sorts of chemicals. BASF SE has 11 divisions, which are condensed into 7 business models: chemicals, materials, industrial solutions, surface technologies, nutrition & care, agricultural solutions, and others. The agriculture solutions segment provides biological solutions wherein the company has a broad product portfolio for crop protection & seed, turf & ornamentals, and urban & rural pest control. Crop protection primarily offers foliar and drench-applied biological solutions to growers for controlling pests and diseases, promoting residue and resistance management. The segment of biological solutions herein comprises liquid biofungicides, bioinsecticides, inoculants, biostimulants, and pheromones intended for use in integrated pest management programs by greenhouse and open-field growers.

In March 2024, BASF announced that it is investing in a new fermentation plant for biologic and biotechnologically based crop protection products at the Ludwigshafen site. The production facility is scheduled to start up in the second half of 2025, producing high-value products for farmers, including biological fungicides and seed treatments.

Bayer AG (Germany)

Bayer AG is a multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology company. The company includes a range of products under the Pharmaceuticals, Consumer Health, and Crop Science business divisions. The company offers liquid biopesticides under its Crop Science business division. Bayer AG maintains a collection of over 125,000 microbial strains. These enable the company to leverage genetic diversity as a means of developing novel and beneficial products. The company continues to leverage its research on microbial and RNAi technology, utilizing RNA interference as a means of enhancing the efficiency of its products. Furthering this research was the acquisition of Monsanto US, which advanced the research on RNAi technology to develop products for crop protection solutions. In 2023, Bayer entered a partnership with Kimitec to develop and expand its portfolio of biological solutions based on natural sources.

In April 2024, Bayer announced that it had reached an agreement with AlphaBio Control of the UK on a new biological insecticide. The move is strategic to strengthen Bayer's product portfolio, as the new insecticide will be unique in its type and made available for arable crops, such as oilseed rape and cereals, thereby helping Bayer build its offerings in sustainable crop protection.

Market Ranking

The global liquid biopesticides market is highly competitive, with large multinational agrochemical companies, specialized biological solution providers, and innovative biotech firms all playing significant roles. Bayer AG, BASF SE, Syngenta AG, FMC Corporation, and Corteva Agriscience are prime examples of major crop protection companies that utilize their extensive distribution networks, substantial R&D budgets, and diverse product portfolios to remain market leaders worldwide. These companies are increasingly entering partnerships, pursuing acquisitions, and developing new products to further enhance their liquid biopesticides and meet the diverse needs of growers. Smaller or mid-sized firms, including Marrone Bio Innovations, Valent BioSciences LLC, Certis USA LLC, Koppert Biological Systems, BioWorks Inc., and Novozymes A/S, compete innovatively with microbial strains, targeted biocontrol solutions, and specialization in select applications—especially in organic and high-value crops. Regional companies and biotech start-ups also add to the competitive landscape with the introduction of new bioactive ingredients and products tailored for local markets, making innovation, regulatory approval, and product efficacy key determinants in the market.

In July 2024,  Gowan Brasil introduced Perimeter, its first biological fungicide developed in partnership with the US-based Gowan Company at Hortitec 2024. In May 2024, Bioceres Crop Solutions Corp announced that Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA - Ministério da Agricultura e Pecuária) had approved three new bio-insecticidal and bio-nematocidal solutions derived from inactivated cells of the company’s proprietary Burkholderia platform. In January 2024, UPL introduced the bioinsecticide Zebu for pastures in Brazil. This biological insecticide targets insects directly and is recommended for controlling pests such as the root froghopper (Mahanarva fimbriolata), pasture froghopper (Zulia entreriana), and grassland froghopper (Deois flavopicta). In January 2024, Certis Biologicals launched Convergence biofungicide, a potent crop protection solution designed for corn, soybeans, and peanuts.
