About 50%-60% of sulfuric acid goes into the manufacturing of phosphate fertilizers such as superphosphate of lime and ammonium sulfate. It is a key raw material, which reacts with phosphate rock in the processing plant to generate phosphoric acid and phosphogypsum. Phosphoric acid is formed as an intermediary product in the production of all high-grade phosphate fertilizers. Metal Processing

Sulfuric acid is used in metal processing application generally, to clean the ore and free it from various impurities. It is mainly used in the pickling of iron and steel to remove oxidation, rust, and scaling so that they are fit to be used in automobile and other major appliance industries. Steel pickling is a finishing process in the production of steel products in which oxide and scale are removed from the surface of strip steel, steel wire, and some other forms of steel, by dissolution in acid. Automotive

Sulfuric acid, also known as battery acid, is used in diluted form as an electrolyte to allow the flow of electrons between the plates in the battery. It is generally used for the manufacturing of Lead-Acid Type Batteries and Sealed-unit lead-acid type batteries that are used in the automotive industry for cars and trucks. Battery electrolyte is a mixture of 36% sulfuric acid and 64% distilled water. It can vary in concentration according to the specifications of the battery manufacturer but is generally between 28 to 32 per cent or between 4.2 to 5 Molar.

Chemical Manufacturing

As a highly important chemical compound, sulfuric acid is used in the manufacturing process of a number of well-known chemicals including hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, phosphoric acid, and many other industrial chemicals. It is also used in the manufacturing of hydrofluoric acid and phenol with propanone, all of which, are used in many industries. It is widely used in the manufacture of chemicals such as sulfate salts, synthetic detergents, dyes & pigments, explosives, and drugs. Sulfuric acid is also used in the manufacturing of titanium dioxide, which is an important pigment used in the paints and coating industry.
