Structural foams are thermoplastic products that have a cellular foamed core with a solid skin surrounding the core. It is generally developed through a form of injection molding (structural foam molding) process using a chemical blowing agent or inert gas such as nitrogen and carbon dioxide. Structural foam is significantly lighter than solid plastic products, having a high strength-to-weight ratio and low-cost tooling.
