There are majorly two types of belts used in any vehicle - the timing belt and the serpentine belt. The timing belt is also sometimes called a Glimmer belt or camshaft drive belt. It basically lets the crankshaft to turn the camshaft. The engine can stop working if and when the timing belt breaks. This can happen if the belt is loose as it will lead the valves to open at the wrong time and get struck by the pistons of the engine. Drive belt or also known as serpentine belt provide power to the air conditioning compressor, power steering pump, cooling fan, air injection pump, etc. Damage to the serpentine belt is not good either. If the serpentine belt breaks, all the aforementioned parts that it are supporting will also come to a halt which might lead to the overheating of engine and eventually its break down.
