    Market Definition

According to Polaris Inc., an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) is a four-wheel off-road vehicle with straddle/motorcycle-style seating and handlebar steering. While two-person models exist, a typical ATV accommodates a single rider. Also known as quads or four-wheelers, ATVs are generally smaller than UTVs, more physically intensive to operate, and easier to transport long distances, as they can fit in the beds of most full-size pickups and many standard utility trailers.

A side-by-side (SxS), also called a utility vehicle (UTV), usually boasts four to six wheels and bench or bucket seating with seatbelts for up to six passengers. The UTV driver operates the machine with a steering wheel and foot pedals. The UTV cab is shielded by a roll bar or cage, with options to add front and rear windshields or a completely enclosed cab for further protection. UTVs make a middle ground between dirt bikes and four-wheelers on one side of the off-roading spectrum and full-size off-road vehicles on the other.
