Vendor Neutral Archive ( VNA ) & PACS Market

Hybrid VNAs Asia & Europe Are the New Growth Avenues

Several healthcare organizations are embracing vendor neutral archives (VNAs) owing to the technological and cost benefits that these solutions offer over as compared to PACS. The technology is aimed at delivering a patient-centric and standard-based image management and storage solution, which is attracting new end users. Thus, the VNA players that were typically focused at providing end-to-end solutions to large healthcare organizations are now shifting their focus to small and medium-sized hospitals as well.

Considering this, hybrid VNA solutions are known to be a better fit for these small and medium hospitals owing to their cost effectiveness. Moreover, with the growing need for disaster recovery solutions, putting all second copies of images on the cloud reduces costs significantly as the capital expenditure involved in establishing a secondary data center is greatly decreased. Hence, the hybrid VNA segment is expected to gain popularity among healthcare providers in the coming five years and is also poised to grow at a high CAGR of 18.7% from 2013 to 2018.

By procurement model, multi-site VNAs are where the major developments are taking place. This is due to the growing number of hospital partnerships, consolidation of healthcare organizations, and government regulations such as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) that support partnerships and consolidations.

Geographic analysis reveals that European countries are lucrative regions because of the public-based healthcare system structure that encourages high-price contracts for large-scale VNA deployments. The Asian market is also a promising area for increasing VNA adoptions. This is due to growing awareness among providers and pilot studies supported by major healthcare IT reforms for implementation of VNAs in these regions.

In conclusion, the new revenue pockets for the VNA market include new end users, hybrid VNA solutions, multi-site VNA deployments, and European and Asian countries.
